Includes 2 racks.
This two-part set represents the early underwing bomb racks fit to P-51 Mustang fighter aircraft and A-36 Apache attack aircraft circa 1943-1944. This early type of rack is most typically seen on A-36A, P-51A, P-51B and P-51C (Mustang Mk.III) fighters. Some P-51D aircraft may also have been fit with them. The rack could carry a bomb weighing up to 550 pounds (~250 kg) or a drop tank.
This early rack featured aerodynamically shaped sway braces faired into the top of the rack. Later racks were of a simpler design with removable, bar-shaped sway braces bolted to the bottom of the rack.
Install the racks flush with, and perpndicular to, the bottom of the wing, not pointed directly downward. When correctly installed, the racks will angle outwards. See scan of original North American Aviation blueprint in the carousel for proper alignment.
The racks are left- and right-handed. Install the racks so that the side with hex-nuts is outboard.
A set of drop tanks is available separately.
These parts are an original 3D design developed from high-resolution scans of original North American Aviation blueprints and World War Two-era photos. The models are not 3D-printed copies of any plastic or resin kit's parts. Therefore, they may be sized, shaped and detailed differently than the parts in your kit. Depending on which kit you have, some adjustment to your kit's parts may be needed for best fit.
